Lost Vaginal Sensitivity & Gained Pain After Taking Antidepressant
Learn how a woman fears she's dulled her vaginal sensitivity with too much vibrator use and antidepressants.
Case #: 713
Concern:
Hi, While on Fluoxetine, I lost sensitivity. I may have pressed too hard with the vibrator because one day I felt a slight sting at the vaginal opening. Orgasms are now painful after, with a dull ache and congestion that lasts for a few days. What can I do?
Discussion:
I've heard many an antidepressant sex story lately. And the most common complaint among woman is that they either have no desire to get sexy at all or they have a strong desire to do so, but their poor vagina's won't wake up.
The Trouble With Antidepressants
So, when we start working extra hard to achieve orgasm, and we aren't feeling those good vibrations breaking through it's very possible to leave some damage behind. The real problem your libido and your genital nerve endings are having competing with the antidepressant is that it's taking down your estrogen levels.
Medication Fluctuation
Prescribed medications such as birth control and antidepressants can disturb the correct production of hormones that your vagina needs to stay healthy. We need a balanced amount of estrogen for things like vaginal elasticity and proper pH levels.
I believe what has happened in this particular case is that the SSRI you're taking has cut off the production of oxytocin. Oxytocin is the molecule that basically puts your body into sensitivity overload and tells your brain that the touch you're feeling is a very good thing. It's also your body's natural antidepressant. Studies have shown that new mothers who became depressed after giving birth had very low levels of oxytocin.
Vibration Abrasion
It's pretty clear by the pain you've describe, that your vagina has been mildly bruised via the great and powerful vibrator. You may have noticed that this has also decreased any feeling you might have been getting out of masturbation before.
The best thing to do for the dull aching after orgasm, is to use a cold compress on the area for about ten minutes. You can use a small cool gel pack to easily conform to your vaginal region or try a frozen bag of peas for less hassle. Though it may be slightly uncomfortable, I recommend a cold compress on the area only in order to bring down any swelling that may have been inflamed by the vibrator damage.
What Else To Do
There are some great herbs out there that help to promote vaginal sensitivity. Natural herbs such as DHEA, Mulberry, and Catuaba [TRY: Young Again formulation] will help to rejuvenate your nerve endings by increasing the blood flow that has become a bit sluggish, and bring back some of that lost sensitivity.
