Is It The Baby Or The Birth Control

Learn of the repercussions of birth control, and what you may do to avoid them.

Case #: 882

Concern:

I have been married to my wife now for almost two years. When we were first dating and not sexually active, she would actually climax when we were involved in some passionate kissing. She was on the pill at the time. She developed breast cysts and her doctor said she needed to get off the pill. A year later, we were blessed with a beautiful daughter. My wife’s sex drive left after she became pregnant and unfortunately hasn't returned. Our daughter is now eight months old. My wife does not feel much of anything and has not climaxed in some time. When she does it is very weak. She is twenty-three now and also seems to lack energy. Do not get me wrong, she has a very good body and is not a lazy person. What do you recommend?

Discussion:

Surprisingly enough, birth control has been known to take away a once healthy sex drive. This occurs because of the excess of synthetic hormones that are included in many oral contraceptives. Birth control is basically a magic trick played on our minds. The pill is filled with extra progesterone and estrogen that makes our brain believe that the body has actually entered a state of pregnancy. Subsequently, the brain will shut down the ovarian function.

Birth Control Blues

Long term use of birth control may cause some pretty significant damage to the reproductive system. If the liver fails to continuously detoxify the body by flushing out the excessive hormones, support to synthesize neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin will lessen. As a result, a woman may suffer from low libido, depression, or orgasmic dysfunction.

Being 'Mommy Tired'

Though the harms of prolonged birth control use is prevalent, there is always the chance that your wife just has a case of 'new mom syndrome.' Being a mother is probably the hardest job your wife and any other woman has ever had. Even though there are countless parenting books, none can tell you what is best for your child. That is something that will come instinctual to her and yourself. It is very possible that your wife is just trying to figure things out.

Studies have proven that new parents' sex lives take a noticeable dip within the first two years of having their first born. Instead of having sex two to three times per week, sexual intercourse can drop to as little as two to three times a month. This is perfectly normal, and with time the numbers will climb gradually.

Herbal Intervention

The best way to detoxify the body from the residual residue of birth control would be to drink at least six glasses of water each day. I would also recommend utilizing natural herbs such as Milk Thistle, Mulberry, and Catuaba. These herbs will help to break down the toxic build up by enhancing the liver functions and relaxing the uterine and vaginal musculature. (TRY: Herbal Formula to Detoxify & Intensify Orgasms) They will also promote better blood circulation within the clitoral and cervical tissues, which will help to restore orgasms to their once powerful state.

To really strengthen your vaginal muscles, I would suggest doing some daily kegel exercises. Don't worry if you've never done them, they're very easy to get the hang of. The next time you sit down for a restroom break, try controlling your stream of urine. If you can stop and start it, you can kegel with the best of them!
