Give Him a Shilajit - The story behind the herb with the funny name

Shilajit is a thick dark brown tar-like substance with a sticky consistency. It is the result of a rare mixture of herbal and mineral properties harvested by local inhabitants in the Himalayas and Heaven Mountains. Indian Ayurveda Medicine herbalists regard it as a treasured cure-all. In Hindu Sanskrit, Shilajit means, "rock invincible. Conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness."

Shilajit begins life as a fluid called “exudate” that oozes out of the cracks in the Himalayan rocks and cliffs during the summer months. It is composed of multiple mineral trace and organic plant materials that were compressed by heavy rock over thousands of years. Extensive lab test results have revealed that there are at least 75 different complex and chelated trace minerals, amino acids, antioxidants, and various phytochemicals contained within.

After it is collected from the mountains it undergoes a process in which it is cleaned, and impurities are extracted. It then emerges as a glossy homogeneous brown-black paste with an unusual odor that tastes bitter. It solidifies in cold temperatures and will soften when warmed. When placed in water it will dissolve, leaving behind no residue.

One of the key components of shilajit is Fulvic acid, which is considered to be among the most powerful natural electrolytes. Research has shown that Fulvic acid enhances the permeability of cell and renal membranes as well as the digestive tract, while greatly improving detoxification processes. Both Ayurvedic and Chinese herbalists share the belief that shilajit is a superb energy tonic for both sexual and spiritual power.

Purified shilajit has an unlimited shelf life. It is said to be of multiple benefits; it is anti-inflammatory; it rids the body of toxins; dispels pain; is anti-ulcer, anti-anxiety, and anti-stress; is considered a “smart” drug with a nootropic effect; and inhibits aging of both the mental and physical state.

Often implemented into natural remedies, shilajit enjoys notoriety for it’s synergy capability, enhancing the action of other herbs to create therapeutic results, such as when it is used in the popular Herbs For Male Low Sex Drive, which is used to balance testosterone and restore the sex drives in men.
