What The Shot Has Done To Me
Learn about the harsh realities that come along with birth control, and what you may do to prevent them.
Case #: 866
Concern:
How long does it take for the body to return to normal?
Discussion:
I haven’t taken the shot in about a year and a half. My whole body and mind changed drastically after taking that shot! It really makes me angry. I used to be the kind of person who had a hard time gaining weight but after taking the shot, I gained 25lbs in about three months. Then there is the problem with not being able to produce wetness. Before I took the shot, I asked my gynecologist if there were any side effects and he said no and that it was safer than the pill. Since then, I have heard one negative thing after another about the shot. This stuff needs to be taken off the market. A friend of mine’s sister gained 50lbs!
Just like all other forms of birth control, the side effects of “the shot” can vary depending on how well it melds with your biological chemistry. Based on the simple fact that birth control cannot be contoured , or catered to every individual woman's personal genetic makeup, we always run the risk of a possible not-so-great outcome. A lot of women experience these, and other less than stellar side effects during their birth control use.
Birth Control Bingo
Unfortunately, the two seem to come packaged hand-in-hand. The old saying rings true; If you want to play, you've got to pay.
Vaginal Dryness
Vaginal dryness is actually a pretty common condition that touches the lives of many women of all different ages. It particularly affects 10 to 40% of us during and after menopause. Symptoms of the rather cumbersome condition may vary. However, the most common signs of vaginal dryness are; pain or light bleeding during sex, itching, burning, or urinary frequency paired with urgency.
A considerable drop in a woman's estrogen level is usually the main cause for a dry spell. Estrogen is what essentially keeps the vagina healthy. It does this by promoting and upholding a consistent amount of vaginal lubrication, while also maintaining the elasticity, and acidity of that vaginal region.
These qualities act as your body's natural defense against harmful conditions and urinary tract infections. When the levels are depleted the natural barrier that estrogen creates will begin to break down. This will cause the vaginal lining to become thin, less elastic, and very fragile.
Keep Those Levels Up
A drop in estrogen levels can occur because of many reasons. Some of those causes include, but are not limited to; menopause, breast-feeding, allergies, smoking, immune disorders, and adverse affects of cold medications and some antidepressants.
Luckily, this type of problem may be quelled with the help of natural herbs such as Korean Ginseng, Muira Puama, and Suma. (SEE: Vaginal Dryness Herbal Formula) Together, these herbs will work to rebuild the endocrine system by restoring the hormone production to its proper functionality. They will also restore vaginal moisture by soothing the central nervous system and urinary and reproductive systems.
Taking It One Step Further
I would also strongly recommend staying properly hydrated throughout the day. Drinking a minimum of at least six glasses of water a day will help your body to naturally restore some of that lost lubrication. Staying away from vibrators, bubble baths, personal hygiene sprays, and douching will also help to build up those low estrogen levels.
