Female Infertility - Caused by Marijuana
The popularity of marijuana use as a recreational drug has increased over the years. Some benefits have even
been documented for cancer patients. But it’s important to understand the potential effects of long-term use. Chronic consumption can lead to infertility by harming the female reproductive system through neuropsychological damage and hormonal disruption.
How It Happens
The main psychoactive component of marijuana, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, is extremely harmful to female reproductive system. It can disrupt menstrual cycle, inhibit oogenesis (the creation of an ovum), prevent embryo implantation and development. [1]
Women who want to get pregnant or have had difficulty conceiving should not smoke or ingest marijuana.
