My Constant White Vaginal Discharge Drives Me Crazy

A woman suffered from constant vaginal discharge.

Case #: 455

Concern:

A bacterial infection has caused my consistent white, vaginal discharge. The problem will not cease and it has occurred for a number of years. The discharge stops during menstruation and then resumes when the seven-day cycle is over.

Discussion:

An important factor concerning vaginal health is the pH balance, which is the measurement of its acidity. The acidic nature of the vagina is to provide protection against problems such as yeast infections, vaginosis and vaginitis. Some of the symptoms of these infections include discharge, irregular odor and inflammation.

The pH level of a woman’s vagina is at its lowest before a woman’s period, which increases risk of discharge. The appearance of clear discharge is one of the most common signs of ovulation. When the pH balance is compromised, germs can invade, which are the primary culprit in abnormal excretions.

If you are suffering from vaginal discharge that is yellow in color and accompanied by a fishy odor, cheesy texture and itching, a yeast infection is usually the culprit.

Main Reasons for Discolored Vaginal Secretions

The discoloration of vaginal secretions may be the result of several different things, which include:

  • Poor hygiene
  • A poor diet
  • Hormonal imbalance

However, if the symptoms of yellowish discharge persist, it may be a clear indication of a much more serious problem. If there are any symptoms of burning, you may be experiencing an STD such as gonorrhea or chlamydia.

Understanding a Healthy Vagina

A healthy vagina is a passageway that exists between the outside of your body and your inner, reproductive organs. The pH balance that exists in the vagina will reduce the chances of an infection from occurring. The acidic nature of the vagina is produced by the naturally occurring bacteria.

When a vagina is healthy it will produce a variety of secretions in order to regulate and cleanse itself, much in the way that saliva works to regulate the environment in the mouth. When there is an interference with the balance of the vaginal secretions, then an infection is likely to set in, bringing a wide array of symptoms.

Risk Factors for Vaginal Infections

While most women will experience some type of vaginal infection at some point, there are some risk factors that can increase the likelihood that this will occur. Some of these risk factors include:

  • Antibiotics
  • Pregnancy
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes

In most instance, abnormal vaginal discharge that is white, with a cheesy texture will be the result of a yeast infection. However, if the condition occurs for more than a week it is important to take action, as it could be a more serious problem.

Feel Normal Again and Eliminate Abnormal Vaginal Discharge

While vaginal discharge may be unsightly, it is a normal part of the female reproductive system. However, if it becomes abnormal, one option is to use an herbal blend, which contains active compounds of various plants known to fine tune hormonal balance for better immunity to fight against infection.
