Cistanche - “Warm Wand” Gives Men and Women Across the World Cause to Rejoice!

The cutting edge science fiction author William Gibson is credited with coining the term “cyberspace” in his ground-breaking book, Neuromancer.  Cyberspace, as you know, refers to the virtual space in which this text you are reading and the software-created world of the Internet exists.

I mention this term “coining” or to “coin” a phrase here because it seems like a nice compromise between inventing a name and fueling a name’s popularity—two actions which no single author or entity can claim sole responsibility.

Since we at Herballove.com are in the business of helping people educate themselves about natural solutions to healthier lives, and specifically their sex lives, we communicate our findings in common, scientific, and sometimes “coined” terms.  The potent aphrodisiacal herb “Tongkat Ali” is sometimes referred to as “Ali’s Walking Stick,” for example.

Interestingly, when preparing to discuss another herbal remedy for better sexual living, Cistanche (L. Cistanche deserticola), I discovered a distinct absence of any convenient nickname for this popular botanical.  And then it occurred to me, why not start here?  It has to start somewhere, right?

With that in mind, and please feel free to email us to suggest viable alternatives, I christen thee herb formerly known only as Cistanche to be heretofore known as …WARMING WAND!

Those of you familiar with Yang tonics, of which Cistanche, ah-hem, Warming Wand is a distinct member, have probably already guessed that the name “Warming Wand” is a reference to “Yang” in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  In this context, Yang rhymes with “song”.  Yang also refers to the warming activities that occur naturally in your body, at least when your body is healthy.  Metabolic-generated heat, the sympathetic nervous system that sends the proper messages to everything in your body to get you moving and feeling, adrenaline spurts used during fight/flight response, and even sexual arousal.  These are all warming functions under the Yang umbrella.

The newly coined name Warming Wand also refers to the shape of the herb Cistanche itself.  The portion of Cistanche that is harvested and used for herbal concoctions is shaped like a big brown fluffy Q-Tip, thin in the middle with thicker buds at either end, giving it a wand-like appearance.  And what, when used properly, does a wand do exactly?

Magic!

Of course, in any real medicine or tonic, magic is not magic in the sense of the mysterious.  Here, in the case of a little shrub-like plant that grows in the desert regions of Mongolia and Northern China, what we have all by know agreed to call Warming Wand, the magic is simple, real.

Here’s how Warming Wand works.

The stems of the wand are dried and cut into strips or pieces, or ground into powder to be mixed in teas, or otherwise prepared for medicinal use.  This portion of the wand contains alkaloids that stimulate blood flow to the lower pelvic region, specifically to the kidneys and central nervous system.  The reasons for poor kidney function can be as simple as aging or as complex as constipation, stress, hormonal imbalance, or some combination of all of these.  When the kidneys are stimulated and functioning properly, the body will better make use of stored hormones, water, and blood flow to balance out the other important organs (including bowels and genitals).

Proper functioning of major organs, like the kidneys, is crucial to the proper functioning of the “lesser” organ (not to say that the sexual organs are less important, but you get the point).

At the heart of this summary is the philosophy or practice in Traditional Chinese Medicine, the thousands of years old practice that has proven time and gain the efficacy of herbal treatments, which treats not just the symptom or the source of ones ailment, but the person him- or herself.

More pressing problems such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, irregular bowels (constipation and/or diarrhea), menstrual pain, lower back pain, and even pain experienced during intercourse are thus all linked to Yang, most often at the kidneys. And yes, men, when the kidneys and circulation are doing their job, you may even experience an increase in the size and stamina of your erections, something users of Warming Wand have claimed for hundreds of years.

However, the value of Warming Wand should not be confused or assumed to be primarily for sexual dysfunction.  Like other Chinese tonics, those containing Warming Wand are not mere sexual stimulants, but are tonics designed to enhance the overall health and well-being of those who consume them.  Unlike certain American pharmaceuticals I will not name here for fear of repeating myself, the time-tested Chinese herbal remedies are not about in the quick fix. True sexual vitality comes from true health.  Healthy body equals a healthy mind, both of which are needed for healthy and sensational sex.

Cistanche… no, Warming Wand! Is considered extremely safe. The American Herbal Products Association has given it a class one rating, meaning that it can be consumed safely when used appropriately.  However, like all Yang (warming) herbal tonics, Warming Wand should not be used in excess or by people suffering from dry mouth, dehydration, diarrhea, or during pregnancy.

We’ll have to wait and see what kind of response Cistanche receives in the American market before we can all agree on whether or not it is a true magic wand, and whether that will indeed prove to be a useful name.

If you have something to add to the discussion, please write in and let us know.  Maybe well end up “coining” something together!
