Not Tonight, Baby – Is Weight Lifting Killing Your Libido?
For many guys, weight lifting serves as a mating call. I mean, we're not nearly as set apart from less evolved primates as we would like to believe, and many guys treat their muscles like the brightly colored feathers on a peacock.

Better physical stature equals better mate. Me much man. You get the idea. But when it comes to the gym, a cruel irony exists. The very work that we do to attract a worthy partner can actually destroy our libidos. No sooner do we acquire the muscle growth to turn heads that we find ourselves plagued by diminished sex drive. This seems like a cruel trick of fate, so what's going on here?

Is The Weight Room Killing Your Mojo?
Testosterone is the hormone that makes a man a man. It enables us to lift heavy weights, build rock-hard muscle mass and enjoy the rigors of sex. Without it, we would be reduced to sitting on a sofa and crying over episodes of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” But when it comes to testosterone, an important balance exists. As noted by Men's Health, too much exertion in the weight room can actually destroy testosterone levels.

Ideally, you want to strive for no more than 20 to 40 lifting sets during any given workout. Use ample weight resistance, but don't over-exert yourself. When you push your testosterone to the limit, it's like quickly pouring a highly carbonated beverage into a glass. Once it fizzes over the side, you're left with an empty glass and a huge mess. The key is moderation. Also, no matter how strong the temptation, it's important to avoid anabolic steroids at all costs. They will actually cripple your body's ability to produce natural testosterone.

So maybe you're thinking, “Okay, that's all well and good, but my libido is already shot. What do I do now?”
Naturally Restoring Testosterone
If you haven't already done so, cut back on the weight training. It may be a good idea to spend a couple of weeks away from the gym altogether. Fitness experts recommend this rest for all weight lifters because it allows your body an extended period of time to heal from long periods of exertion. Second, if you are taking any steroids, gradually start cutting back with the ultimate goal of quitting completely. Quitting all at once can have devastating side effects, so cycle them out of your system over a period of a few weeks.

Also, you can replenish your testosterone with the help of certain herbs, like Maca and Catuaba. (TRY: Natural Inca Formula for Libido Booster) Avoid pharmaceutical-based testosterone boosters, as even the legal ones can carry serious side effects. When it comes to safe testosterone restoration, you want to stay as close to nature as possible. After all, chemicals are what got you into this mess in the first place.

Most importantly, be patient. Even when you cut out the anabolic steroids, your body isn't simply going to heal itself overnight. These concoctions can wreak havoc on your hormonal balance, and even cripple your body's ability to produce hormones naturally.

The damage isn't irreversible, but your body isn't going to heal itself overnight either. So take a break from the weight room, take a nice vacation, and toss the juice in the trash where it belongs.
