Native to the mountain valleys of northern China, Horny Goat Weed earned its name from goatherds who noticed that satyr goats copulated more than 25 times a day after consumption of the herb. Many Chinese herbalist and doctors have prescribed this slender, creeping root to improve sex drive, to strengthen nerves, to channel sexual energy and to increase sperm production. Horny Goat Weed contains a special molecule, icariin, which is a cGMP-specific PDE-5 inhibitor that prevents venous leaks while maintaining an erection.
With over 200 active compounds found inside the herb, pharmacology and clinical studies agree that Horny Goat Weed and its active compounds regulate sex hormones; help with immunological modulations; provide vital antioxidants; reduce aging; and offer anti-atherosclerosis and antidepressant chemicals.
