Rehmannia - The Healing Flower of China

Rehmannia is a genus of six species of flowering plants native to China. It is a perennial herb with large flowers that grows up to a height of nearly two feet. In Europe and North America, it is often simply bred as a decorative garden plant. But in Asia, it is predominantly used as a medicinal herb to treat a variety of conditions within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) remedy formulations.

The Rehmannia plant bears flowers of a unique purplish-orange complexion and features a large brownish-yellow rhizome. After special preparation, the rhizome appears tar-like and black and pliable. It contains the vitamins A, B, C, and D, as well as other compounds that can reduce the production of pro-inflammatory factors.

The Rehmannia rhizome is alleged to possess a liver detoxifying action as well as potent agents in the fight against hepatitis. It is also believed to have an anti-rheumatic and anti-eczema property that helps to lower blood pressure and excessive cholesterol levels.

Rehmannia has been used extensively in the realm of TCM. Chinese herbalists and TCM practitioners have used it to cure an assortment of health conditions such as asthma, arthritis, kidneys problems and hives. Additionally, research indicates that Rehmannia is also a useful herb in preventing the suppressive consequences of drugs with steroidal properties. Furthermore, the herb treats a variety of maladies such as anemia, dizziness and constipation. It’s anti-inflammatory action makes it an important ingredient to such remedeies as the Vaginal Regeneration & Detoxification Formula For Intercourse Pain, where it increases blood flow to the vaginal tissues and protects against gynecological ailments.
