Blood pressure constitutes one of the principal vital signs. Blood pressure refers to the force exerted by circulating blood on the walls of blood vessels. This pressure decreases as blood moves through arteries, arterioles, capillaries, and veins. The term blood pressure generally refers to pressure in the larger arteries, the blood vessels which take blood away from the heart. In addition, hypertension and the medications used to treat hypertension can adversely affect normal sexual function.
How it Happens
Current research has discovered that patients with both erectile dysfunction and hypertension also have endothelial dysfunction with their penis. Neurotransmitters and nitric oxide play a key role in blood vessel relaxation and dilation during erection. Usually, sexual stimulation starts the release of nitric oxide. In conjunction, neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine would stimulate the endothelium to generate a more sustained release of nitric oxide for sustaining erectile responses.
Endothelial dysfunction has also been found in many people that share risk factors such as diabetes, depression, smoking, and obesity.
Since vascular problems like endothelial dysfunction lead to erectile dysfunction, it is one of the early indicators of hypertension & cardiovascular diseases.
Hormonal changes caused by high blood pressure also lead to impotence. Clinical evidence has shown that high blood pressure physiologically influenced testosterone levels and sperm production. Current research further indicated that high blood pressure associated with Aldosterone binding with mineralocorticoid receptors has negatively impacted endothelial function related to vasoconstriction and vasodilation for people with erectile dysfunction.
