Hands Off the Goods, Sister! How Masturbation Leads to UTIs and the Botanical Cure that Can Save You
Urinary Tract Infections. I’ve you ever had one, you know how truly painful and stressful they are. And they seem to strike for no reason at all! Some women are highly susceptible to them, and contract them at all times and seasons. Some women are lucky enough (or unlucky) to get them only in adverse situations. But here’s one thing that you probably didn’t think would trigger a UTI: masturbation.

Yes, onanism is the unlooked for cause to many a UTI. Hands, toys, et al. have the ability to really through a wrench in your urinary works. It might seem surprising to consider, but once you know the reason behind it, there’s no longer any mystery.
Keep it Clean!
During the process of masturbation, it’s highly unlikely that you are using fresh-washed hands and sterilized sex toys on a just-cleansed pudendum. Therefore, any sort of contact is introducing bacteria onto the labial area, which is then rather well combined with any sort of loose skin cells, lubrication, and body oils. The bacteria love this type of food, and proliferate happily. Then, assuming you’re engaging in clitoral stimulation—and about eighty percent of women say they can only reach orgasm in this manner, so it’s safe to assume you’re one of them—this Petri-dish is rubbed all over your urethra.

Pee Potential
That’s where the trouble begins. Have you heard the recommendation about peeing after sex? Well, you should also consider peeing about masturbation. Urine is naturally sterile, and forcing it through the urethra carries out all the invasive bacteria before they have a chance to become entrenched. It’s when these bacteria are not removed that a UTI is established.

Germ Warfare
There are several bacteria that can cause a urinary tract infection, most common is E. coli—bacteria found in your intestines. The second-most common is Staphylococcus saprophyticus—normal bacteria found in female genitals. You can see that the proximity of these germs make it really very easy for a woman to contract a UTI.

Unfortunately, women also suffer these infections much more often then men, due to the protracted condition of our urethras—1.5 inches compared to 8 inches! That means it’s a much shorter distance between the point of entry and the bladder, making it easier for the bacteria to enter and colonize.

However, there’s an easy way to make the bladder and urethra both stronger and less susceptible to these irritating bacteria. One herb specifically has powerful anti-infection properties; and it taste good too!

Flower Power
Hibiscus Sabdariffa is the herb I’m talking about, and I’m sure you’re already familiar with it in as found in teas and juices. It’s a known anti-bacterial agent due to it’s inherent phenolic compounds, so it inhibits the growth of the bacteria, but it also prevents their adherence to the walls of the urethra and bladder through the presence of anthocyanids, procyanids, and flavanoids. (SEE: Cranberry Remedy with Hibiscus for UTI Relief) Hibiscus also acidifies urine, making it difficult for the bacteria to survive in the environment.

You can easily integrate Hibiscus into your diet, if you so choose. There are a variety of tea options, and in some countries you can just buy the dried flower itself. The flower imparts a light acidity to beverages, and can be a deliciously piquant addition.

Another option is to look for a supplement, which might be easier to find. Many supplements also contain Cranberry extracts, which is another powerhouse for killing UTIs. These pesky infections strike eight million people a year; why not avoid the problem with some easy, proactive protection? And wash your hands before you get down with your bad self!
