Worried About Superbugs? Try This All-Natural Antibiotic
We’ve all been hearing about superbugs lately—the result of too many unfinished courses of antibiotics. The reason superbugs exist is due to the adaptive nature of bacteria. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? This is especially true in the case of antibiotic resistant organisms, which, if not killed outright by the medicine, become immune to that strain of antibiotics in the future.

Finish the Pack!
An antibiotic course is designed to last longer than the longest possible lifespan of the bacteria it’s intended to kill. However, it happens that people begin antibiotics, and, soon feeling much better, decide that there is no need to finish the pack. This is how superbugs start. The fact is, most of the germs are dead, but a few might still remain, and these better adapted organisms go on to breed and multiply, having become to immune to one type of antibiotics.

And it’s not humans only. Pets may also be prescribed antibiotics, and as a number of bacterial diseases can be transferred between humans and animals, if an owner gets lazy, they might soon find themselves suffering from the very same disease Fido just had.
Can’t Fight ‘Em
To date, there are only a certain number of antibiotics we have available. Once a person has exhausted the line-up for a particular disease, it’s left to his or her body’s own defenses to fight it out with the invading bacteria. This type of issue leads to such diseases as chronic bronchitis, yeast, and staph infections.  Not only that, but your body requires a certain amount of bacteria to function properly—in your vagina, and in your guts, namely.

Herbal Assistance
However, there are many, many herbs that are inherently antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory—you name it, there’s a helpful herb out there for you. And that’s great, because once we run out of biological solutions, fighting fire with fire, as it were, we’ll need to fall back on something.

For those of you who are already homeopaths, you’re probably familiar with the antimicrobial properties of Tea Tree and Gentian Violet; however these are generally a topical application. There are many more antibacterial herbs that can work inside the body as well as out. The most powerful of these tend to be from the ginger family, Zingiberaceae, and includes ginger, galangal, cardamom, and turmeric.

Traditional Treatment
If you enjoy Asian cooking, you’ve already tasted Turmeric. It’s root-derived, and is most often seen as a vivid, golden powder. It is used as coloring in many, many dishes, and for flavor in a few specific areas, such as Nepal and India. It’s also been used medicinally to treat wounds and infections for thousands of years.

There’s a reason for this. Turmeric contains curcuminoids that repress inflammation and boost antioxidants in the body. It’s also been proven to decrease bacterial activity, in a process that increases the body’s levels of defense cells through the inclusion of a specific type of glycoprotein. This serves to increase immunological resistance to outside bacteria, and to strengthen the body’s ability to fight infections when they do occur.

A Better Way
By regularly consuming Turmeric, or even by beginning a dosage when you’re feeling ill, you’ll be able to fight germs without relying on biological warfare. It’s easier on your body, cutting out the gut troubles and potential for yeast infection that come with antibiotics. Not only that, you can continue your birth control without fear of disruption, keeping your hormones in check, and your body happy, too. It’s good for you, good for the future of disease, and a cheap, easy method to try before you run to the doctor.
