Alisma is well known for it's ability to regulate water metabolism and strengthen the urinary system. The roots of Alisma Plantago have been said to treat edema, acute diarrhea, fatty livers and oliguria. Other known benefits of Alisma Plantago root include: lowering blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar. Because the leaves of Alisma Plantago contain antibacterial, anti-cholesterol, hypoglycemic and diuretic properties, the herb has been known to treat bruising and swelling.
