Mastectomy Reconstruction
Jane was 32 when she had a mastectomy. After her surgery, she cherished her life, but found one minor issue: She felt disfigured. For women like Jane, a mastectomy can leave women depressed and disfigured, and while the trade off seems fair, some ladies will opt for additional operations to reconstruct their breasts.
According to most women who experience the operation, the feelings of loosing a breast can lead to depression and resentment. Fortunately, surgeons can reconstruct the breasts, the nipples and even the areolas.
Breast Process
Surgeons will typically take extra fat from the abdomen or back to reconstruct a breast. Women with little fat in these areas will usually go on a diet to gain weight.
Once ladies gain the weight, surgeons will take the added fat and reconstruct it into a breast. Meanwhile, for areolas and nipples, surgeons will take skin graphs from other areas of the body and then tattoo the areolas to provide a proper match of the skin.
Alternatives
While some ladies may opt for breast reconstruction surgery, other ladies found the operation a bit too pricey. Instead, ladies can choose from some alternatives, including:
