Sleeplessness Often a Symptom of Over-Masturbation
His desire to masturbate 3 times a week has caused him sleepless nights.
Case #: 29079
Concern:
I enjoy masturbating. I am in my early teens, and since discovering masturbation, I have been unable to control my urges. I masturbate often—as many as 3 times a day. It’s almost like a secret hobby to me. I enjoy masturbation so much that I often cannot wait to engage in it. Now, I fear my obsession for the activity has taken its toll on my body. It seems as if I cannot gain a proper erection. To make matters worse, I can hardly sleep at night. I feel as if I have insomnia. Can you tell me what’s wrong with my body?
Discussion:
Excessive masturbation as a teen can cause a bevy of mental and physical problems, from impeding penile growth to insomnia. Over-masturbation depletes the body of essential neurochemicals, including neurotransmitters and hormones. The loss of such chemicals can diminish your body’s ability to get a proper night’s rest, maintain an erection, or provide a stable mood.
Over-masturbation’s Damage on Your Body
Over-masturbation depletes your body of a few essential neurochemicals, including testosterone, dopamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine. When testosterone and acetylcholine reach low levels, your erections start to disappear. Why? Because both testosterone and acetylcholine control your body’s ability to gain an erection. When both see a reduction, your body cannot send enough blood to your penis to gain or maintain an erection.
When serotonin levels become low, ejaculations start to become uncontrollable. Because serotonin levels dip, the chemical cannot be converted to melatonin. Melatonin, a chemical produced in the brain, is used for sleep. When no melatonin is present, your body cannot fall asleep.
Resolving Your Problems
Insomnia, premature ejaculations, and weak erections can all be resolved by refraining from masturbation. As a young teen, you need to exercise plenty of self-restrain. Begin by reducing the frequency each week until you no longer engage in the activity. You will need to take herbal supplements containing SAM-e to replenish essential neurohormones to recover from your sleep disorder and regain back your erections.
