Are
Stress & Anxiety Causing My Premature Ejaculation?
How is stressed linked to the body and just how
can it be responsible for sexual dysfunctions like premature ejaculation?
Learn the solutions to this common problem.
WHAT IS STRESS?
You might be surprised how much stress is running through your
daily life. Stress is more than just the worry you have concerning
work or school. Stress comprises all the surprises, joys, sorrows,
and pain that you experience.
However, stress is more than just the mental and emotional events
you come across. Stress also includes all the physical wear and
tear that you deal with.
Basically, stress is all the ups and downs of your life.
Normally, stress is a good thing. It helps us concentrate on important
tasks, urges us to do things, and creates a new perspective, while
generally making life more interesting. After all, how exciting
can life be if everyday held no surprises or challenges? It might
be stress-free, but extremely boring.
Occasionally, a stressing event may push you past what you may
be able to handle, such as being unable to sleep because of worry
over a test or excitement of a trip the next day. The emotions caused
by a breakup in your relationship or someone passing away can be
extremely overwhelming. All of these are obvious.
But sometimes, constant and persistent everyday stressors can buildup
and affect your body the same way a large event can. Problems with
work, relationships, and your life can pound away at you until you
break.
BODY RESPONSES UNDER STRESS AND ANXIETY
Stress & Anxiety can trigger a series of changes in brain chemistry.
Such changes can alarm Endocrine and Nervous system that put the
entire body in anxiety mode.
HOW DOES STRESS AFFECT THE BODY AND
SEX?
Most of the time, our bodies are able to handle the routine stressors
of life. Missed the bus? No problem, I’ll walk. Deadline coming
up? I’ll focus and concentrate. Our bodies were designed to
meet these challenges by stimulating the sympathetic nerves of
our body which would lead to:
- Increases our heart rate to circulate more blood, hormones
and chemicals are produced by the brain for concentration and thinking
- Stimulate the body to produce more blood sugar and adrenalin
thus provide more energy,
- Diverted the blood from less vital areas (such as the
digestion system and genitals) to arms and legs for strength, and
breathing increases to provide more oxygen to the body.
When it comes to sexual functioning and stress, the problem arises
when your body is unable to keep up with all the demands put upon
it. Our body has a certain threshold for stress.
Once it is surpassed, it will start to affect different parts of
our bodies in negative ways.
Common problems with stress are difficulties with sleep, lack of
energy, depression, mood swings, headaches, body pains, impaired
immune system resistance, gastrointestinal complications, and of
course anxiety.
Sexually, stress will cause a decreased enjoyment of pleasure,
increase sensitivity to pain and stimulus, occasional impotence,
and the constant occurrence of premature ejaculation.
