Reasons
for Prostate Enlargement
Exactly why the prostate
enlarges is still a bit of a mystery in some cases. Besides the
normal enlargement of the prostate that males go through during
puberty, the prostate gland tends to enlarge again around the ages
of 45-55. Here are a few causes:
Conversion of DHT
Besides sexual reproduction and controlling urine flow, another
function of the prostate is converting the testosterone in your
body into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The problem of PE arises when
your body has a higher level of testosterone than normal. When this
happens, your prostate has to work extra hard in converting it into
DHT. Also, excess amounts of DHT tend to bind to the prostate gland.
Because of the overheating and increased hormones building in your
prostate, growing in size and causing PE may be the least of your
problems. This condition may lead to sexual impotency, incontinence
(the inability to control bladder function, since the prostate affects
the urethra and pushes against your bladder), prostatitis, BPH,
and has been linked to prostate cancer. Also, it may occur in men
of any age.
Excessive Production of Semen
Because the prostate produces a majority of your semen, sexual
practices may affect it. Over masturbation and sex puts a higher
demand on your body. To meet with the constant flow of semen you’re
losing, the prostate has to put in a few hours of overtime to not
only meet the demands but to anticipate it for the future. The storing
and the overproduction of seminal fluids may lead to its growth.
This is a common problem for youths going through puberty (which
may develop into Youth Impotency)
and for those who carry this practice well into their adulthood.
On the other side of the spectrum, you may have heard that recent
studies have shown how masturbating is good for your health. What
they failed to mention was that the study looked at several men
complaining about an inflammation of their prostates – who
avoided masturbation and extramarital sexual intercourse due to
personal or religious reasons. When asked to begin or increase masturbating
to at least twice a week and reevaluated after a six-month period,
most showed an improvement. Again, the build-up of excess hormones
and seminal fluid may be the culprit behind a growing prostate.
But sorry, masturbation for you over-masturbators is not going to
help.

Prostatitis:
The definition of prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate.
Inflammation can be acute (resulting in a sudden, severe, and short-term
reaction) or they can be chronic (slow in developing, persistent,
lingering for months, and reoccurring for many years). An inflamed
prostate is usually marked by:
| |
• Pain in the groin, testicles,
perineum, penis, and/or urinary tract;
• Difficulty with urination; a burning sensation on urination;
• Pain after ejaculation; and premature ejaculation.
• Other non-specific symptoms include fever, chills, lower back
pain, and abdominal pain. |
Specifically why the prostate becomes inflamed varies and is sometimes
unknown. Doctors still debate the causes and best courses of treatment.
As mentioned earlier, an overabundance of DHT or seminal fluids
from excessive sexual practices may be a leading cause. But other
factors include bacterial infection, auto-immune response or disordered
immune response, physical injury, prostate stones, food allergies,
virus, yeast infection, or a rare tumor, to just name a few.
