1) Grape seed oil contains procyanidins, flavonoid and vitamin E which are antioxidants. Different studies resulted differently to the effect of Vitamin E. A double-blind study at Vitamin E, researchers found that supplements lowered the risk for coronary artery disease.

1) Grape seed oil also contains linolenic acid. Linoleic acid in grape seed converted by intestinal bacteria to Conjugated linolenic acid (CLA) after taken. CLA prevents tumor growth.

2) Linoleic acid can replace other fats in the diets to cause HDL (good Cholesterol) levels to rise and LDL (bad cholesterol) levels to fall, actions consistent with the prevention of heart disease.

3) Antioxidant supplementation may help Alzheimer's disease since "oxidative stress" may play a role in this dementia trouble

Concerns

Chemically, there are several different types of Vitamin E. The one found naturally in our foods is gamma-tocopherol, a potent antioxidant. On the other hand, the Vitamin E found in grape seed, is mostly alpha-tocopherol. There is laboratory evidence that when taken in very larger amounts, alpha-tocopherol can block the effects of gamma-tocopherol.

Precautions
Patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, or bleeding tendency (disease or under anticoagulant treatment) should be careful for the dose of grape seed to be taken. Consult to your physician is a must. Very high doses of Vitamin E can be dangerous.
Dosage

The Effective dosage has never really been determined. Most researchers feel that if Vitamin E supplements are to be taken, then at least 800 International Units a day will be required to produce any benefit. But many believe the suitable dose for migraine, painful menstruation, and osteoarthritis is less than 100 IU. For chronic fatigue syndrome, PMS, menopause and varicose veins take up to 400 IU a day, no longer than one month.

Summary

There is evidence that linoleic acid supplementation causes HDL (good cholesterol) to increase and LDL (bad cholesterol) to decrease. This could prevent coronary heart disease. Vitamin E supplementation, whether from grapeseed or from some other source, helps prevent prostate cancer. Taking a consideration of the possible benefits and the lack of significant toxicity, grape seed is a good dietary supplement.
