Effects
Experiments indicate that Epimidium
can produce sex hormones. When used to improve sexual functions
in males (sperm formation), the leave and root have stronger effects
than stalks or fruits. Studies also demonstrated Epimidium can improve
the growing of prostate and seminal vesicle. Epimidium can dilate
peripheral vessels to induce dropping of blood pressure.
Dosage
10 – 15gm.
Precautions
This herb mainly use to tonify the body,
it is not considered to use for a person with hypertension.
Contraindications
For a person with fire symptoms caused
by deficiency of Yin.
Interesting facts
The Chinese name for Epimidium means
“sexual plant for goats”, which originated from a told-story.
Once there was a shepherd who wondered why his goats were so sexually
active. He started watching what they were eating and noticed that
they consumed a great deal of one plant in particular, which he
later named “sexual plant for goats”.
