Tackle Vaginal Dryness: Make Sex More Pleasurable
Vaginal dryness has effected almost every woman at some point in her life. It is usually characterized by dryness, itching, and can be painful. Vaginal dryness can also have an unwelcome effect on a woman's sex life. The dryness can result in painful intercourse for both partners and can even be dangerous.

 This painful interruption of a woman's normal sexual life, is commonly caused by the body's decrease in estrogen levels. Usually a result of menopause, this condition can also be caused by bacteria and fungal infections. Before a woman can begin treating this problem, it is important to know what is causing the vaginal dryness.

Causes of Vaginal Dryness:

 As women age, their bodies naturally begin to produce less estrogen which can lead to vaginal dryness and even decreased interest in sex. The walls of the vagina will begin to become thinner, and intercourse can cause painful bruising and even infections. Some causes of lower estrogen levels can include,

* menopause, or the beginning stages of menopause
* pregnancy or child birth
* breast feeding
* hysterectomy
* certain birth control medications and other forms of contraceptives
* smoking or excessive use of alcohol
* prescription medications
* stress or extreme fatigue

 Other symptoms women may experience from low estrogen levels can include a burning or itching sensation in the vagina and the need to urinate frequently. Women may also experience painful intercourse that could be accompanied by slight bleeding.

 While low estrogen levels are the most common cause of painful vaginal dryness, other factors can contribute to the disorder.

1.) Allergies to certain feminine products such as tampons and douches can cause vaginal dryness, along with allergies to bath soaps, condoms, and even toilet paper.

2.) Some medications can also cause dryness including some anti depressants, antibiotics, and even some antihistamines have been known to cause feminine problems.

3.) Vaginal dryness can also be a result of certain medical conditions which can include, radiation treatments, chemotherapy, and Sjogren Syndrome which affects the autoimmune system.

Ways to Treat Vaginal Dryness:

 Vaginal dryness can dramatically affect a woman's sex life. Instead of sexual intercourse being a pleasurable experience between two people, it can become painful and even dreaded. There are different ways to treat vaginal dryness, depending on the cause. Discussing the problem with a health care professional is one of the first steps a woman can take to begin treating vaginal dryness.

 If the vaginal dryness is caused by a bacterial infection or a fungus, a prescription can treat the underlying problem and sexual intercourse should be able to be resumed after the problem has been treated. For women who are suffering from vaginal dryness due to low levels of estrogen, there are several different therapies that a physician may recommend.

* A vaginal estrogen ring can help restore the body's estrogen levels. The ring fits inside the vagina and releases a low dose of the hormone into the woman's body.

* Estrogen pills are also another popular form of hormonal therapy. Instead of swallowing the pill, it is placed inside the vagina where it will slowly release estrogen similarly to the ring. The pill is taken once a week, where the estrogen ring is replaced every three months.

* Other women prefer using a hormonal vaginal cream as needed. The cream is applied directly to the vagina and releases the hormones only when it is applied. Some women prefer being able to strictly regulate when and how much of the estrogen hormone they receive.

 There are also natural treatments for vaginal dryness, and they can include the use of lubricating oils and gels along with drinking plenty of fluids. Staying hydrated is important for maintaining sexual health. Certain fatty foods and fresh fruit can also help to relieve painful vaginal dryness.

 Unfortunately, almost every woman will experience vaginal dryness at least once in her life, but it does not have to mean that her enjoyment of sex is over. A healthy lifestyle, and even some hormonal therapies can help a woman stay sexually and emotionally happy.
