Surviving and Thriving in a World of Multitasking

Busy! Busy! Busy! Sounds a common cliché for many of us. We are living in an era when we all are so busy and have to face many things to be accomplished.  Multi-tasking has become the fundamental survival skill in this Internet age.

Most of us simply don’t have enough effort or time to do things in a day or even a certain period of time. New technologies such as cellular phone, notebook, mobile application and instant messaging are supposedly increase our efficiency but actually demanded more time from us if we can’t multi-tasking properly.

“Things are behind,” “a deadline has to meet,” “I have to rush” are sound very familiar to us. Multitasking chores involve moving a number of projects along at one time, which requires interpretation, organizing, planning, an adaptable personality, and strong willing power. Even our daily lives inspire a certain amount of multitasking genius and skill, without the sufficient ability to work on multitask, most of us would be suffered.

Risk of Multi-Tasking
Multitasking is inherently risky. It drains brain energy tremendously without notice. Continuously multi-tasking without a good brain energy base or replenish can lead to mental “burn out”. Most people drink coffee and energy drinks as a way to boost mental alertness and energy, which led to more problems in a long run.

Stimulant such as coffee signal the brain to release adrenaline into the blood stream. Body responses to adrenaline rush with stress-like symptoms such as nervousness, palpitations, and fight or flight responses. Long term caffeine overdose can harm the adrenal function leading to chronic fatigue, nervous system dysfunction, premature ejaculation, insomnia, and decrease ability to proper multi-tasking.

For those that already suffered from Over Masturbation, malfunction adrenal function can lead to further mentally and physically drainage. Worsen symptoms such as lacking focus and constantly making careless mistakes become more noticeable. Sexual desire and drive also lowered tremendously.

Ways to Improve
There are three ways we can help our body and brain to accomplish multitasking successfully as the rule of thumb.

  1. Life-style
Appropriate Nutrition. Balance diet with protein, fat, carbohydrate, minerals and vitamins supplies the needs for functioning of the body and the brain.

Suitable Rest. Overwhelming of working exhaust the body and the brain which most of the time bring us into a condition that cannot reverse by more rest in the later time. 6 to 8 hors of continuous sleep or brake into two portions in a day would be enough to give the brain and body to replenish.

  2. Engineering
Confucious stated “Things are ins and outs, things are beginning and end and knows the sequence of the short cut carry on.” To handle the multitasking the priority should be screened out from many jobs and focus onto it. Search the origin and sequence in planning to set up steps to finish the job would save a lot of energy and avoid the back and fore.

  3. Build Natural Brain Power Reserve
No matter whether it was insufficiency of production or weaken action of the brain essences, most of the time we need to supply materials to help the integrity of the brain cells, protect the neuron from damage, provide fuel for energy formation, and essentials for neuron’s communications. A healthy brain is a must for the success of multitasking.

Many tonic and potent herbs can efficiently and safely provide nutrients to the brain. These brain foods can replenish what we use up and build up reserves that sustain us even during stressful times. Many effective natural formula contains nutrients to fuel the brain, provides anti-oxidant protection, enhance neurotransmitter production, improve brain cell circulation and alertness. All these factors are necessary for multi-tasking neurons.

Brain Cell Nutrients
Ginseng. Ginseng is an adaptogen. An adaptogen helps the body adapt to stresses of various kinds, heat, cold, exertion, trauma, sleep deprivation, toxic exposure, radiation, infection, or psychological stress. Furthermore, an adaptogen should cause no side effects, be effective in treating a wide variety of illnesses, and help return an organism toward balance no matter what may have gone wrong. The active contents in ginseng are believed to be substances known as ginsenosides.
Ginseng helps the integrity of brain cells. Ginseng can increase the defense ability of the organism, promote healing and reduce the toxicity of certain chemicals. It increases the ability of analysis. Ginseng promotes cognitive functions, mental functions, and psychomotor performance. Ginseng increases the function of adrenal cortex, the immunity response, increases the resistance to disease, and stimulates the pituitary gland to produce more sex hormone.

Polygonum multiflorum. Polygonummultiformrum, known as Fo-Ti, is an adaptogen, antioxidant and immunostimulant. It improves cognitive performance, enhances learning and memory and prevents brain fatigue. Studies also shown the evidence that Fo-ti prevent the degeneration of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons in the brain (cause of Parkinson disease). Fo-ti inhibits the growth of bacteria, increases laboratory animals’ ability to adept to cold temperatures, and also shown antitumor, antioxidant, and immunostimulant effects.

Phosphatidylerine. PS is an amino acid that provides building block for cell membranes, and neurotransmitter receptors. It is a nutrient to the brain cell. It enhances mental function in young people, strengthens memory, boosters learning, increases vigilance and attention, intensifies concentration, increase mental acuity, semantic skills, and controls over mood. It improves age-related memory loss, Alzheime’s disease, slows the loss of brain functions and rejuvenates them.

Brain Alertness Enhancer
Gota Kola. Gota is commonly known as “food for the brain”. It works as a stimulant and as an anti-oxidant. The stimulate property of Gotu Kola promotes the brain’s ability to focus, and provides anti-anxiety, anti-depressive and anti-stress effects. The anti-oxidant properties can help prevent the brain from the damage effect of free radicals. Traditionally this herb has been used for its mild tranquilizing, anti-anxiety and anti-stress effects to support the central nervous system. Research shown Gota Kola helps to attenuate the age-related decline in cognitive function and mood disorder in healthy subjects

Yerba Mate. Yerba mate has been used as a beverage since the time of the ancient Indians of Brazil and Paraguay, and still is considered a national drink in several countries of South America. The primary active substances in Yerb mate, xanthine alkaloid [caffeine, theobromine and theophlline], are effective on physical and mental fatigue. Yerba mate, no like Coffee, would not give a crash effect after use. In addition, the leaf of yerba mate is a rich source of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. The leaf of yerba mate has been demonstrated to inhibit lipid peroxidation, particularly Low density lipoprotein (LDL). Oxidation of LDL is considered to be the initiating factor in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.

Brain Circulation Enhancer
Gingko Biloba. Gingko prevents red blood cells and platelets from aggregating to form clots. Gingko also can improve circulation in the tiny blood vessels by inducing relaxation of the smooth muscles surrounding blood vessels. These actions allow more oxygen to supply to the brain and to the neurons. Gingko had been long used as a supplement for enhancement of memory, improvement of concentration, increasing of energy and elevation of mood. Research on Ginkgo extracts and memory were faced with mixed results. However, when Ginkgo is combined with ginseng, the mixture was found to significantly improve memory.
This effect represented improvements to a number of different aspects of memory; including working and long-term memory. Studies have shown combining phosphatidylserine (PS) along with ginkgo might increase its efficacy.

Neurotransmitters Promoter
Alpha-glyceryl phosphoryl choline (AGPC). AGPC is a phospholipid, precursor of acetycholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter, a chemical substance that sends messages and commands concerning emotions and behavior throughout the brain. Acetylcholine is a key chemical which promotes memory in the brain. AGPC, is a potent form of choline, derived from Soy lecithin, easily cross the blood-brain barrier from the blood to the brain to make acetylcholine. Research has shown AGPC to be more effective than citicholine and with very few side effects. AGPC also has been shown to enhance the release of human growth hormone, the master anti-aging hormone. APGC improves brain development during pregnancy, increase mental alertness, and sharpness, and enhances memory and concentration. Research with athletes has shown that it improves coordination, balance, and endurance.
Dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE). DMAE is an amino acid, chemically similar to choline but it crosses the blood-brain and gets into the brain cells more rapidly. It is a precursor of neurotransmitter Acetycholine. It increases alertness, improves concentration, reduces anxiety, improves leaning and attention span, and normalizes brain-wave pattern.

Fuel to the Brain
N-Acetyl-L-Carnitine. ALC is a naturally occurring amino acid synthesized in the human brain, liver, and kidney. It works as fuel to the mitochondria (the structure in the cells in manufacturing energy) of brain cell to enhance brain cell energy. ALC helps maintain a higher level of mental performance: cognition, reception, interpretation, focusing and memory, and helps to stimulate the growth of new brain cells. It removes toxic accumulations of metabolic wastes from mitochondria, keeping these organelles healthy and functioning at their best. It slows down the progression of brain cells aging. It also helps in the skeletal muscle recovery from training and injuries and benefits to chronic fatigue syndrome.

Antioxident Promoters
Alpha Lipoic Acid. Alph Lipoci Acid (ALA) is a fatty acid naturally found inside every cell in the body. It is needed by the body to produce the energy for our body’s normal functions. ALA is bound to protein and functions as a cofactor for several important mitochondria enzymes. ALA converts blood sugar into energy. ALA is also a potent antioxidant, a substance that protect against the elevated levels harmful chemicals called free radicals produced from the increase in metabolism.
ALA increases the formation of glutathione, an important intracellular antioxidant that also play a role in the detoxification and elimination of potential carcinogen and toxin. Unlike the more common antioxidants vitamin C and Vitamin E, ALA functions in water and fat and able to recycle antioxidants such as vitamin C and glutatione after they have been used up.

Rodiola Rosea. Rodiola is an adaptogen and has antioxidant effect. It increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain, and helps repair the damage cause by drug, alcohol or hypoxia. It acts on the brain to enhance mental function and improve memory. It also acts on the muscle to improve exercise endurance and reverse fatigue.

Glycyrrhiza glabra. The Gycyrrhiza glabra, licorice, plant is native to southern Europe and parts of Asia.  The dried licorice roots are used in traditional Chinese Medicine for stomach ulcers, cough, and harmonizing other herbs.  Compounds of the Licorice root enhance the immune system and provide antioxidant support.  Present studies have shown extracts of licorice to significantly improve learning and memory.
