Prone Masturbation – What It Is and Why You Need to Stop Doing It

Everyone knows what masturbation is. It's the magic formula for making angels sing and bringing peace to the nations. And from what I've heard, it's also the number one cause of blindness and hairy palms in men—just kidding. At any rate, it's an activity that just about every guy occasionally enjoys, and it's perfectly healthy in moderation. But certain types of masturbation can be hazardous to your health. For instance, you never want to bring your plug-in sex toy into the bathtub with you, and you're going to want to avoid prone masturbation at all costs. “But wait,” you say, prone masturbation? Yes, prone masturbation.

What is Prone Masturbation?
Though you don't commonly hear the expression, you may have tried the activity at one point or another. Prone masturbation involves lying on your stomach, rather than on your back. You might use your hand (per the normal routine) or you might masturbate by thrusting your penis into a pillow, mattress or other object to simulate real sex. Prone masturbation can be extremely dangerous, and in fact, it has been shown to cause severe sexual dysfunction in most people who habitually engage in the activity.

Only about 10 percent of the population engages in this form of masturbation, but that's not such a small number when you really break it down. For instance, 10 percent of the population is homosexual; 13 percent of the population is African American; and 15 percent of the population meets the criteria for alcoholism. So a seemingly small percentage can obviously encompass a lot of people. If you practice prone masturbation, you would be wise to stop immediately.

What's So Bad About Prone Masturbation?
According to a 1998 report from the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, prone masturbation places tremendous pressure on the base of the penis. Over time, this masturbation can lead to a serious condition known as anorgasmia, defined as extreme difficulty of achieving an orgasm, or a complete inability to complete an orgasm. In fact, nearly 60 percent of people who engage in prone masturbation have reported problems with anorgasmia. That's a staggering number.

Is if that wasn't enough good news, at least one-third of people who practice prone masturbation have reported suffering from erectile dysfunction. So even if you're one of the lucky few who doesn't become plagued by anorgasmia, it won't really matter if you can't get it up anyway. Some guys claim that prone masturbation feels better than conventional supine (performed on one's back) masturbation, but ask yourself, is it really worth the potential risks?

Have You Already Experienced Symptoms?
Maybe you're reading this and thinking to yourself, “Oh no, I'm already experiencing these symptoms. Is there anything I can do?” For starters, you need to lay off the dangerous masturbatory practice. Second, herbal treatments may treat nerve and tissue damage to reverse the signs of sexual dysfunction. Herbs like Astragalus Membranaceus, Cornus Officinalis, and Opiopogon have shown tremendous progress.

Most importantly, don't buy into the myth that prone masturbation is more like real intercourse. Real intercourse doesn't place that kind of pressure on the base of the penis, and it typically doesn't lead to devastating sexual dysfunction (unless your partner likes it very, very rough). So practice safe sex, and safe masturbation. The health of your penis depends on safety.

One of the first things you may want to do is to stop masturbating in the prone position. This is one of the most dangerous positions that I have read about because there is so much pressure going against the penis that it just causes severe damage.

This article is great for anyone who practices prone position masturbation and to understand what they are actually doing by performing these acts. Instead of bringing pleasure, there is more to it that includes some serious damage to the penis.

Towards the end of this article you will also find some advice on what you can do to help you recover towards any tissue damage that might have happened due to the prone masturbation. You will notice that there are some key herbs that formulate to help with the problem.

Herballove makes it simple to find solutions that include these herbs. If you go under the Product Reviews tab that you will see at the very top of every page, you can click on that and you will find a search box to the right. There you can find formulas based on the specific herbs.

How much of these should we take? do we do all three at once? Thanks

Any side effects?

I am sure you would be able to search a daily dosage of those herbs and take that daily until you start seeing results. If you are able to share the specific problems you experience I am sure we will be able to help you find a formula just for the problems you are experiencing. These formulas already consist of the perfect daily dosage for your problems.
It is my pleasure being able to help you

Thanks. Well I have prone masterbated for life. Stopped about two weeks ago trying to retrain myself with my understanding girlfriend. I can get hard but I don't cum. Only way I come is rocking on my fist in the prone postion when I'm soft. Another question is any side effects from these herbs I should be aware of? Thanks.

When you do cum it is having a soft erection? This shouldn't be happening because there shouldn't be the enough amount of hormones to provide for an ejaculation. I think your body just got used to being in the prone position that now your body onle responds to this. You shouldn't feel any side effects if you are able to take these herbs. They don't come along with side effects because they are all natural unlike the other companions such as prescription medications that contain chemicals that you have most likely never heard of.

I have been experiencing this for many decades now where prone, sofft penis and achieve orgasm. Unforotnately, is the only way to "cum." It is possible to cum while soft like this.

I get the 2 methods for solving the prone masturbation problem are:

1. Stop
2. Go to hand only ('supine masturbation')
3. Consider supplements like those mentioned on the website

What I want to know is, has anyone tried these ideas in conjunction with a Fleshlight?
Patrick Liu's picture
Patrick Liu posted on Mon, 09/22/2014 - 12:43
Prone masturbation is highly thought of being bad for a man because there is so much pressure against the penis and therefore a lot of damage is done to the penis from something as a burst vein to even plaque buildup inside the penis.

My question is, what would the benefits of using a fleshlight be? Fleshlight themselves can be quite dangerous since they are not natural vaginas that expand upon penetration. These are one size only and can be rough on the outside of the penis, especially if there is not enough lubrication.

Patrick, I was thinking along the lines of:

1. It's not prone
2. You are thrusting into something, not putting all the pressure on it by putting your body weight on top of it prone on the bed. Hand action in a supine position can be pretty heavy too...
3. If you use lubricant and place the Fleshlight in hot water like the instructions suggest - wouldn't it then be OK unless you were particularly well endowed?

Patrick Liu's picture
Patrick Liu posted on Tue, 09/23/2014 - 16:02
You are right about it working as long as you follow the instructions. Everything seems to have its pros and cons and if you don't follow the instructions on certain things then you will more than likely face the cons. Is there another name for fleshlights? I know I have seen masturbators on this website and masturbator sleeves but I am not sure if they are the same as this. It is better for you than masturbating in prone position which has already caused enough trouble.

Dear Professionals,
I went to the docter about 2 month ago, he told me I have to tell myself before i go to bed: I am going to wake up after the preforming of TMS (train myself, and eventuallly wake up if i preform) Unfortunatelly I do not wake up after preforming TMS, and continiu to to it in the middle of the night. Even Mind calming techniques dont work, because of the sexual arousal at night and then i uncounsiously preform agian.

Can you please help me with this, i get tired of it and i dont want to cause even more severe damage.

thank you in advance.

Ok...  I Just found this article tonight and I'm sure the answers have been resolved, but I'd like to know the FULL story.  No shame no nothin just facts.   I discovered this way of masturbation when I was 4 and have been doing it ever since up until yesterday.  I got real carried away with it and on average have done it twice a day for 17 years (probably more than that) I'm 22 and I just simply can't do it the "normal" way.  I first tried back in 2006-2007, but to no avail.  I've multiple times sense, but it either feels really weird, I'm impatient, just doesn't do it for me, or when I'm hard it goes soft after a minute or so of me stroking it.   At this point I figure I'm way too far gone to solve the problem so "what the hells the difference?"   I'll also add I'm a virgin and have never had a girlfriend nor have I even kissed a girl.   I guess the only reason I have this issue is because I discovered it at an early age and it became a part of life because it felt good...???     Any info would be appreciated and any questions feel free to ask.  I'll answer ANYTHING.

I had to re-do the math a few times to make sure I was seeing this right. That means you started masturbating in the prone position at age 5. That is well below the average puberty age. Do you experience any issues when masturbating? Take a look at the overmasturbation section, what symptoms do you experience? My guess is that it is a lot of those problems. It is more than likely that you damaged the development of your penis by masturbating so young.

With such a long history of masturbating in the prone position, I think you will need to do a lot of things. I know a lot of men are emberassed, but I highly suggest going to the doctor if you experience any sort of problems with your penis or sex life, including self pleasure. The reason things like this feel so good is because it sort of mimics the pressure of the penis being inside a vagina. Have you tried anything like a fleshlight or a masturbator sleeve?

It is probably best to see a  urologist to help you with your problems. This is a lot of years of masturbating in the prone position and this may cause very severe damage. You can ask him to recommend herbs as well to help you. I am sure what he will recommend is most likely found here but it is always good to get advice from a doctor.
Good luck! Stay healthy my friend.

No, seeing a sexologist might be a good idea in your case. It would be a good idea to show you natural ways that you can boost your sex drive and get everything back into a working function.
Good luck! Stay healthy my friend.

The sexologist might be able to show you ways that can boost the sex drive without having to take any sort of pills or anything. If this is possible then that means your sex drive will be on it's way back to working function.
Good luck! Stay healthy my friend.

Just as Alex said and how I said in your other post, see a doctor about your sleeping habit. You don't explain that here but I am sure Alex would give you the same advice if he read about the performing TMS while asleep.

Should i do something about this immediately? or wait for apointment.

What way does your penis lean towards and about how much of a degree? Not being able to keep it up might have to do with the blood flow to the penis.

Guys who do it prone I HAVE A MESSAGE!!! I did it like that for pretty much my whole life, I knew about the other(proper) way. I felt strange doing it prone,(my) way. It's like I was living in a freaky private lifestyle. I told nobody. I would consistently try the proper way for about 6 months now. While prone was still a habit! I needed to get out of this habit when I started to read up on it because it can lead to inorgasmia and nerve damage. When I would ejaculate prone I would be flaccid (which I knew wasn't a normal thing) I felt depressed sometimes, even alone with nobody to explain my embarrassing lifestyle to. But I managed to do it the normal way and BOY WAS I HAPPY.LOL! For me it was easy to do it the other way but the normal way was much MUCH more rewarding and very powerful if you know what I mean. For everybody out there who is  prone and can't quite manage to do it normally(Supine) what I have to say is keep trying and try to get past a point in your masterbation where you feel enough is enough, because it isn't! When you feel you can't go anymore keep at it LOL. For me it took a very long time to ejaculate the supine way. I will probably never go back to prone now. Trust me guys, the normal way feels incredible! KEEP TRYING! Also another tip is to use aloe or lotion. It makes everything a lot easier! Just thought I had to share this with all of you readers!

Hi, I am 21 and I had prone masturbated for around 4-5 years like rubbing with bed, sofa, pillows. From nearly a year, I  am feeling unusual pain in the lower part of penis when erect and a bit low otherwise when I touch the part with genle pressure. The pain is in 2-3 areas in lower penis region and is very depressing as it is hard to masturbate by holding the penis from lower side and thats  why I have to hold it from sides.

During orgasm it sometimes feels very painful (it feels like needles or thorns are present in lower penis) when semen passes with pressure through the effected areas. The urethra has also become narrow and cant handle pressure of semen and urine, during urinating I have to firstly clear the urethral passage by just passing out few drops of urine and then pass the urine afterwards.
Right now I am taking homeopathic treatment for urethral stricture and inflammation.
Please Please guide.

Hi. I did prone since about the age of 12 and am now 16. I stopped and took about a week's break and then tried by hand but it did not work. From then on I kept trying but without success. However, I have not reverted back to prone position and it has been 3.5 weeks since I last had an orgasm. I keep trying but it is becoming very frustrating. I'm wondering how long it will take before I can reach climax. I also find that I cannot fully pull back my foreskin but only about half way over the head. Is this also a result of prone masturbation as it makes it difficult to urinate in a controlled manner standing up.

After seeing a doctor he said it was because my foreskin was attached to the head and so it couldn't retract. Occasionally urinating stings a little but is mostly painless, I've not tried for a week but still have been unsuccessful I orgasming sin everyday my last prone 4 weeks ago. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, JT

See, firstly you have to stop doing it the prone way and also prevent it doing  normally too till the urinating gets better. Mine is nearly the same case but I also used to do it by hand also when I was addicted to prone so the problem with my foreskin is there but not that much as yours.

After the problem with your urethra get better, start doing it by hand, your foreskin problem will gradually improve. Plus there are excercies for making the foreskin a bit loose so that it moves to and fro during motion- you can check it on the net.

Just ask your doctor about the urethral problem as it a bit to worry. Is your urethral pipe narrow as compared to others ?

I masturbated so much that it led to a loss of sensitivity down there. I though my life was over until a friend turned me onto a penis health creme called Man1 Man Oil. This creme contains acetyl L carnitine, which is an amino acid that repairs damaged nerve endings. It has totally restored a lot of my lost feeling. This creme is amazing.
