Lindera Radix - The multi-faceted medicinal herb

Lindera Radix is one of nearly a hundred Lauraceae flowering plant species of the Lindera genus. Although it’s primary native origin is of Asia, there are at least three species present in eastern North America.

Lindera Radix are shrubs and small trees from which the dry roots that contain a number of potent agents such as alkaloids, volatile oils and sesquiterpene esters are often used by Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners.

Pungent in flavor and warm in nature, Lindera Radix has direct effects on the urinary bladder channels as well as on the lung, spleen, and kidneys. It promotes circulation, disperses excessive bodily cold and alleviates pain. In fact, the herb is often used to treat cold accumulation and the associated distending discomfort of the chest and abdomen by addressing problems such as lower abdominal pain and frequent urination.

It is believed that Lindera Radix may actually resolve incoordination between the spleen and stomach, having great effect on anorexia and of preventive nature to the processes that lead to vomiting. It may reduce instances of frequent urination or incontinence and is even used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, as it is able to suppress inflammation and protect bone joints from deterioration.

Also typically used for gynecological ailments, the herb serves to correct irregular menstruation, treat dysmenorrhea and ease inflammation. It is known for it’s ability to soothe and calm. The effects are profound, treating fatigue, mild anemia and high blood pressure. It is often combined with Plantago Seed and Coix Semen in an established formula designed to fight vaginal infections, the Herbal Tincture For Vaginal Infection. When Lindera Radix synergizes with the energy of the other herbs in this potent remedy,  the resultant antioxidant activity provides necessary revitalization and relief.
