Does Irregular Period Cause Infertility?

A woman is fertile 3-4 days a month. In a regular 28-day cycle, the egg releases from the ovary and travels down the fallopian tubes around the 14th day. When the female cycle remains irregular, women can become pregnant unexpectedly or not at all. What’s worse, some months ovulation may not occur at all, causing infertility issues.

If you experience inconsistent bleeding or bleeding that lasts longer than a week, you may have an irregular cycle. If you bleed more often than every three weeks, or you experience spotting between periods, these are also signs of an irregular cycle.

What causes an irregular cycle?

Women who experience either tremendous stress or exhaustion may experience an irregular cycle. Hormonal imbalances from birth control and certain health conditions may too cause an irregular cycle. In some cases, birth control can help regulate hormones in the body for a proper cycle.

What to Do

To regulate the cycle and restore fertility, herbal tincture can help. An herbal tincture extracts active plant compounds into alcohol, which you then use orally. You’ll need:

  • Herbal Blend (see below)
  • 20 oz. jar
  • Alcohol (such as Rum or Vodka) or Apple Cider vinegar
  • Filter
  • Small bottle with a liquid dropper

To make the herbal blend you’ll need:

  • 10 grams of Corydalis (Yan Hu Suo)
  • 10 grams of Angelica Sinensis (Dong Quai)
  • 10 grams of Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiang Fu Zi)
  • 10 grams of Auklandia Radix (Mu Xiang)
  • 10 grams of Savia miltiorrhiza (Dan Shen)
  • 5 grams of Safflower (Hong Hua)
  • 5 grams of Citrus Reticulata (Qing Pi)
To prepare the tincture:

Fill the jar between a quarter and half way to its capacity with the herbal mixture. Add the alcohol (or vinegar if you do not want to use alcohol) to a level just above the herbs. Seal the jar to prevent the alcohol from leaking or evaporating. Store in a dry and dark area.

Over the next few days, the dried herbs will absorb and expand. You’ll need to add more alcohol periodically. Store the jar anywhere from two weeks to three months.

When you’re ready to drink the tincture, strain the liquid into another clean jar. Drink two teaspoons right after eating lunch and dinner. If the taste is bothersome, mix it with water, tea or juice.
