Case Study #9363 Date: 2/24/2001
Ever since I had a case of viral induced hyperthyroid, I have had a problem with premature ejaculation and difficulty maintaining erection. The thyroid problem started 3 years ago and was "gone" 2 1/2 years ago. More recently, an endocrinologist said the thyroid issue did not cause the other problems, though I am still suspicious. While it seems unrelated, at the same time I started snoring loudly. Recently, an enzyme based herbal medicine has solved the snoring issue.
Dr Lin’s Response:
This summer, I had a chance to visit my youngest daughter's summer scientific program at the University of Florida, Gainesville. I found a student finishing a research topic on the effect of Thyroid-Releasing Hormone (TRH) on the brain's acetylcholine level. Laboratory mice testing concludes that injecting a small amount of TRH can raise the brain's acetylcholine level tenfold with an hour!
Here is your problem associated with hyperthyroid. The thyroid gland is part of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis and control of thyroid hormone secretion is exerted by a negative feedback control loop. Thyroid-Releasing Hormone (TRH) released by the hypothalamus stimulates the pituitary to release Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) which, in turn, stimulates thyroid hormone release. When thyroid hormones in the bloodstream increase, it sends negative feedbacks to inhibit both TSH and TRH, which leads to "shutdown" of thyroid epithelial cells. Later, when the thyroid hormone level decreases, the negative feedback signal fades and the thyroid wakes up again. Hyperthyroid produces excessive thyroid hormone, which deactivates your hypothalamus and pituitary, both of which are also the master controller of the brain (hypothalamic-pituitary)-adrenal/testicular (ovarian) axis. That means your DHEA and testosterone productions are slow too.
Perhaps, your endocrinologist is a little out-of-date. It seems you are experiencing the midlife male menopause. Acetylcholine is essential for the parasympathetic nervous ending in the penile tissues to release the erectile neurotransmitter Nitric Oxide so the parasympathetic nervous function in the prostate can keep the prostate emission valve tight. Also, so that the parasympathetic nervous function in the liver, kidneys and adrenal glands can suppress the sympathetic function for P450 enzymes to release properly and to regulate renal blood pressure control and reduction of the stress hormone adrenaline, respectively.
Well, you need LastLonger Plus daily to power your neuro-endocrine function for erection, lasting longer, and health.
