Case Study #9304 Date: 1/19/2001
Dr. Lin,
I am a 23-year-old male. Between June and August 2000, I juggled a very labor-intensive job in a warehouse with bodybuilding. I was working 40-50 hours/wk and strength training 3-4 times per wk.
For my bodybuilding workouts, I was using creatine, glutamine and whey protein. During the first week of August, I started to notice a decline in my sex drive and ability to get erections.
It is nearly six months later and I am still struggling with arousal problems. Over this time frame, I have rarely achieved nocturnal erections or spontaneous for that matter. On the nights I do get an erection, it is very soft and probably barely firm enough for intercourse. In addition to my erectile dysfunction, I have also been lacking my typically high energy levels.
Things that normally interest me don't give me the enjoyment that they once did. I have visited an urologist recently who tested my hormone levels and found that they were all within the normal range. He basically told me it was psychological and that I needed to get a girlfriend. If the erectile dysfunction still persisted after three months, he would prescribe that miracle pill everybody knows about. I will be going back to the urologist in the near future and would really like to avoid taking that miracle pill at my age. Dr. Lin, can you please tell what is causing my ED and how I can rejuvenate my once normal sex drive? This is the most frustrating ordeal I have ever had to deal with!
Thanks
Dr Lin’s Response:
Your erectile dysfunction results from sport dietary supplements, excessive labor/exercises, and stress. You have overloaded your liver with sport dietary supplements. As a result, your liver produces less enzymes for the synthesis of the erectile neurotransmitter Nitride Oxide (NO) and dilator cGMP. You have burned too much dopamine into stress hormone adrenaline (adrenalin or epinephrine) to execute fight or flight for your job and bodybuilding. As a result, adrenalin blocks the acetylcholine receptors of the parasympathetic nervous endings in the erectile nervous circuits S2-S4 (Sacral nerves). Less acetylcholine action on the parasympathetic nervous endings lessens the erectile neurotransmitters NO and less cGMP released in triggering erection.
You have built your muscles at the expense of shrinking your penis. Why? You have developed the testosterone, DHEA and DHT receptors in the muscles to compete with those in your penile spongy tissues. You have supplied less testosterone and DHEA to your penile tissues although your testosterone level is still in an acceptable range. Particularly, when there is insufficient biological action of testosterone on your prostate tissues and insufficient dopamine action on your brain/pituitary, you lose your libido. Well, you get the picture!
You need LoveLonger IV to solve this problem. You have to block the excessive dopamine-adrenalin conversion in your brain and adrenal medulla and power your liver for more acetylcholine/NO/cGMP production. Adding a little DHEA into your system can be helpful since you need more testosterone to feed your muscles from now on.
