Dyspareunia - Frequent Intercourse Creating Soreness?

Dyspareunia can be very stressful for a woman. It can create a dilemma in intimacy and personal relationships. Although intercourse is still engageable, the pain is still linked to negative feelings towards sexuality,

in this feature

Dyspareunia means difficult or painful sexual intercourse. Although the condition is present in both sexes, it is far more common in women. It is described as pain with initial penetration, during thrusting, or after intercourse.

There are medical, physical, functional and psychological causes in the case of dyspareunia. Medically dyspareunia occurs as a result of vaginal infections, sexually transmitted diseases, skin conditions, hormonal problems, conditions of the intestines or genitals or urinary system. Psychologically it occurs from a postpartum crisis, interpersonal difficulties, forced sexual encounters, vaginismus and so forth. Functionally, Dyspareunia occurs from genital irritation due to excessive hygiene or sensitivity to cleansing agents, poor hygiene, friction irritation due to sports such as cycling or horseback riding, or insufficient vaginal lubrication. Physically it can occur from vaginal abrasions, scars, nerve damage, complications from vaginal delivery, and size incompatibility.

Abrasional Dyspareunia is a physically inflicted condition and can be treated herbally and by taking breaks in sexual relations. Frequent sex will cause this problem due to abrasion of your vaginal orifice. It requires 3-5 days to heal the abraded tissues before you can have sex again. The major pain occurs in the vaginal opening. You can solve the frictional pain by using Herbolove’s VIP Cream which can serve as a lubricant and vaginal heater. Dr. N.K. Lin highly recommends this cream when dealing with abrasional dyspareunia.

Diagnosis
The diagnosis of dyspareunia is typically made based on your symptoms. Your medical and sexual history and your physical examination.
Being able to to differentitate between touching of the genitals and early penetration pain vs. deeper penetration pain will give a clue as to what is causing the dyspareunia. Generally a physician will ask where and when the pain is occuring.

The Diagnosis questions are generally as follows:

• How long have you been having pain during intercourse?
•
Do you have natural lubrication or do you use lubricants?
• Do you have any history of STDs?
• Have you been sexually abused or ever had an accident
involving your genitals?
• Are you experiencing menopause?
•
Are you breastfeeding?

During an exam your vaginal wall will be checked for dryness, infection, swelling and skin STDs. There is usually a pelvic exam for signs of any masses or endometriosis.

Duration of Symptoms & Treatment
If it’s just a case of dryness the symptoms can clear up quickly with lubricants. Other conditions tend to be more complicated and require various options for treatment.

For dryness, Dr. N.K. Lin recommends VIP Cream to target damaged nerves and tissues in the sexual organs to renew and improve sensitivity. By feeding the local tissues and nerves of the clitoris with hormones, VIP Cream can enhance clitoral enlargement and engorgement, remove scar tissue, increase libido, improve sexual response, reduce PMS induced problems, channel blood flow to the genitals, and increase vaginal lubrication.

Prevention

• Shower daily, avoid tight clothing, wear cotton underwear.
•
To avoid sexually transmitted diseases, practice abstinence or safe sex — either in a monogamous relationship, or by
using condoms to protect against sexually transmitted
diseases.
• To prevent vaginal dryness, use a lubricant, or, if the
dryness is due to atrophic vaginitis, seek treatment.
• If you have endometriosis, avoid very deep penetration, or have sex during the week or two after menstruation (before ovulation), when the condition tends to be less painful.

All Things Considered
Dyspareunia can be very stressful for a woman. It can create a dilemma in intimacy and personal relationships. Although intercourse is still engageable, the pain is still linked to negative feelings towards sexuality, with more sexual dysfunction and lower levels of sexual adjustment. Sometimes emotional or past issues such as sexual abuse or communication problems in a relationship can translate into sexual difficulties.

Unfortunately, many women are putting up with painful intercourse, alienating themselves of a healthy sex life that should be part of the foundation of their intimate relationship.

If you think your condition is psychological ask your health care provider to refer you to a psychologist, sex therapist, or other counselor for help. A thorough assessment is imperative in order to identify the particular type of dyspareunia the woman has and to offer the correct treatment. A careful medical and sexual evaluation can help resolve most of these problems.
