Two months after my wife started taking the birth control pill, she lost her sex drive. That was 9 years ago. She only has orgasms if we use a vibrator. Sex is painful for her always. She doesn't have the sexual interest to allow us to take our time. She just wants to get it over with. We both dearly love each other and give each other affection. What can we do? We really need help.

Dr Lins Response:
Birth control pills generally overload the liver and brain with estrogen or/and progesterone. The liver is responsible for enzyme and glucose productions. The liver enzymes are the key for conversion of nutrients (amino acids and cholesterol) into the neurotransmitters and hormone (progesterone/DHEA/testosterone/estrogen) production. When the liver is overloaded by estrogen and/or progesterone, the biosyntheses of neurotransmitters and hormones are slowed down. The neurotransmitter dopamine and testosterone in the brain, associated with increasing the orgasm/emotional hormone oxytocin production and decreasing the orgasm inhibitor prolactin, are responsible for libido and sexual/orgasm responses. The neurotransmitter acetylcholine is the most important one for central and peripheral nervous systems. It affects the nervous transduction in the brain, spine, and sensory and motor nerves. In the autonomic nervous system, the sympathetic/sensory nervous circuits of T10-L2 are responsible for orgasm while parasympathetic/sensory nervous circuits of S2-S4 are responsible for erection of the penis and female urethral spongy tissues extensively including the labia, clitoris and G-spot. The acetylcholine and parasympathetic functions are responsible for your healing and energy restoration, the adrenal function for DHEA production, and the production of the 2nd neurotransmitter nitric oxide, which induces dilation of arteries. Without the parasympathetic nervous functions, the arteries and tissues in the sex organs won't dilate properly, and hence, there is insufficient DHEA and androstenedione for the vaginal/urethral spongy tissues to produce the relaxant prostaglandin E-1 (PGE-1). Without sufficient PGE-1, women will experience penetration or intercourse pains/cramps.
The pills will also cause hypothyroidism that makes women become moody and increases the liver glucose production for diabetes (some women become diabetic during pregnancy due to the elevation of estrogen and progesterone) and the cholesterol level . It seems she need EvaMax IV and Fibra to help her out.
