I've been reading many emails on your website. Many of them were about the effects of the birth control shot and how it causes many internal problems. Dear Doctor Lin,
I've been reading many emails on your website. Many of them were about the effects of the birth control shot and how it causes many internal problems. At first, I was on the pill in June called Estr?step and switched to the shot at the end of the pill cycle. I have been on the shot since July of this year and have noticed a change in my body. Prior to getting the shot, I had an abortion in June. My boyfriend and I have an excellent love life but after the abortion and the shot, we have noticed a lot of changes in my body. I have gained about 20 pounds and my appetite has increased. During sexual intercourse, I suffered from a constant pain in my vaginal area in the past few weeks but has now gone away. I visited my OB/GYN and they told me that I was ok. I started to notice bleeding at times like I’m on my menstrual cycle and the GYN said that it was just spotting from the shot. It also happens after sexual intercourse. I have also noticed that my vaginal area has had a decrease of wetness during intercourse and it takes longer for it to be ready. Also, my sex drive has decreased a lot, which is way out of the norm. I’ve also been experiencing lower stomachs pains severely. Also, at the end of this month, I will be switching back to the pill. Can these problems be due to the side effects of the shot, the pill, and/or the abortion procedure?
Dr Lin’s Response:
Well, your OB assumes the side effects of the shot on your sexual functions and body pains are normal! But what do you think? It is your body and health! You have to pay the price while your OB and drug company make money from you. The side effects will last very long since the pseudo-progesterone kills the liver function releasing the enzymes that support the brain's neuro-endocrine functions (cholesterol-hormone conversion and neurotransmitter syntheses). It also increases the SHBG protein that freezes up your testosterone in the bloodstream. Less free testosterone equals lower libido. Your body is like a car engine with a weak battery that cannot start the engine to recharge itself.
